Had the same question about the update. Did you download it? That is, until the past several days. Today, after getting sick of the very persistent pop-ups, I finally went into Word and clicked File, Help, and then did the update from that location, thinking it would be safer than clicking on the pop-up.

For us, this hasn\’t worked and the \”update\” has taken about 5 hours thus far. It never finishes!! Eventually, Word or Excel will open, but it has closed itself several times with \”not responding\” messages or is very slow.

I get a pop up at the bottom of the screen saying:. Microsoft Office may appear unresponsive temporarily as the required files are downloaded. I do believe there is something wrong with the update that Microsoft put out. There is no \”check progress\” area so that I can see what\’s going on and again, it has never finished and we\’ve been trying for hours!

I have looked at that page previously, Word, file and help and find it confusing. Under tools for working with Office you see check for updates, that is the Windows Update, why is that there if WordUpdates don\’t come with Windows Updates?

Under click to run it says that updates are auto downloaded and installed, doesn\’t that mean I don\’t have to click anything? What, if any, change di the update make I guess we\’re all gun shy to click on a download you \’re not sure of.

Yes it is a real update. Office Starter is not part of windows so updates will not appear in Windows Update. When you open Word or Excel Starter, it connects to the Internet and searches for updates automatically.
